Today was pretty mellow around here until the afternoon. Lucy and I had a 2:30 appointment today at the U.S. Embassy to get her passport, social security number, and the equivalent of a U.S. birth certificate. She did wonderfully, slept the whole time, and the entire process was easier than I thought. Her passport should arrive in around 10 days and her SSN in about 3 months. She's officially a U.S. citizen. Oh, and if any of you are wondering, she will not have dual citizenship, unfortunately. Apparently you can only get Hong Kong citizenship if one of your parents has it. Oh well.
I planned on taking a picture at the embassy, but they took my camera away when I checked in. So, all I have is this picture I took two seconds ago:

I'll point out some key things in the picture. First of all, she is swaddled. It feels so mean to wrap her up like that, but she loves it. She doesn't even fight it anymore when I do it - she just clams down. I try not to swaddle her too much during the day, so she has some freedom, but when she gets fussy (like she was a minute ago) that's the first thing I do. Secondly, the iPod in the background is playing "white noise." I never would have believed that would work, but, amazingly, it does. I'll be glad when she doesn't need it anymore, though. While it may be relaxing to her, it kind of puts me on edge, although I am learning to tune it out a bit. Finally, the swing. I've learned that swing absolutely does not work unless the swaddle and white noise are present, but if they are there then she's out in about two seconds.
I love this little girl more everyday. It is amazing how much room there is in your heart for love. What a gift we have been given.

Hi guys! I haven't check your blog in well over a week and I just had so much fun reading about what you guys have been up to. She is sooooo cute! I can't wait to see her in person & both of you of course!
Laura
Thank you for posting such frequent entries to your blog, Tracy. I can't wait until I can see all three of you, although I know that might not be until next summer.
Just wait until Lucy's a teenager and you can't roust her out of a deep sleep no matter the incentive. Those days of being amazed by five continuous hours will be a distant memory. Trust me. :)
Take care,
Carolyn
i really wish I could still swaddlel my children...it would make keeping a clean house alot easier!
