Communing with the gods

I just wrote and entire post and while I was uploading the pictures, it all got earased! Grrr ...
I guess I'll start over :)
We had an absolutely fabulous weekend! It totally reminded us of why we are here - travel and experiences. The weekend started on Thursday morning when we hopped into the van and headed towards Greece. After a six-hour journey, we arrived at our destination, a little town called Litochoro (I think that's how it's spelled), which is located at the base of Mt. Olympus. One side of the town looks at the mountain and the other side looks over the Agean Sea. I've been to a lot of places and this town is among my favorites. It was so cute, clean, and welcoming. After checking into the hotel, we all went out to a great dinner and then headed for bed. On Friday, we woke up and headed up the mountain. It was quite a hike, but totally worth it. You can understand why people thought the gods live on Mt. Olympus. It is very foggy and eerie and the night before the hike there was thunder and lightening. I took so many pictures along the way ... too many to post here. At the top there is a cute lodge where we spent the night in a room that had about 10 beds pushed together - it looked like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. After dinner, Greg found a guitar and the sing along began. Pete was quite the hit of the party, as he was often the leader of the band. Pretty soon there were Germans, Austrailians, Bulgarians, Greeks, and some guys from Minnesota joining in. Annie - I totally thought of you, as all of this was right up your alley: hiking followed by guitar! After a short pillow fight in the room, we headed to bed. The next morning we hiked down the mountain and spent some time in Litochoro. Our plans were to head to Melnik the next evening, but all the hotels were full there, so we just headed back to Sofia, where after a hot shower I fell fast asleep. I am SO sore today, but it was totally worth it. What a fun adventure! You were all in our thoughts the whole way - I wish everyone could have been there. So much fun. Here are some pictures ... enjoy!
