November and December (thus far)

Holy cow!  I've almost documented the year! I love the idea of doing the blog more often - I always love the idea of doing the blog more often and then, somehow, a year goes by.  Maybe this year ...
Following her sister Lucy's lead (who got her ears pierced on her birthday), Sofie got her ears pierced the day after Halloween, which was the day after her last soccer game (which was rained out and didn't happen, but whatevs).
A fun scooter ride in the neighborhood.

Sofie opted out of a scooter and chose her own two feet.
Lucy is also a scooter-er - but hard to get a picture of - this girl kind of hates getting her picture taken or wants to be goofy in the picture.  I don't blame her, I guess, in the day of "take a picture every five minutes because I have a camera on my phone" kids probably feel like the paparazzi is following them whenever they are with their parents.

Official transition ceremony for Lucy to go from being a Daisy to a Brownie.  Sofie (still a Daisy) was the flag bearer.
This is a picture of our last Family Feast at A Child's Way - a bitter-sweet pic for sure.  I remember when Lucy started there I thought we would be at that preschool forever and it went so fast.  It has been such a wonderful start for our children's educational journey.  I have to admit, though, I get excited thinking about them all being in one school next year!

Annual Turkey Trot!  I love this tradition so much!  We get up fairly early on Thanksgiving morning and do a Turkey Trot at the school.  The girls run a couple of laps and then I usually do the adult 2-mile run.  There is a 5-mile run that I continue to aim for and determined to do next year.

One of our new favorite traditions is the Oregon Garden.  We spend the night and walk around in their Christmas Village set up in the woods.  It is so much fun.  This year we did it Thanksgiving weekend and it was a great way to kick off the Christmas season.

The ever-popular "bathroom garden" in the children's section of the Oregon Garden.

Sweet Sof sitting by the fire.

Emma enjoying hot cocoa.

Christmas card pic this year!

Emma singing at the tree lighting ceremony at Bethany Village with her daycare class.

This is just from the waiting room at Red Robin, but I thought it was such a cute pic.

This Wednesday (yes! I'm already on to blogging about the current week!!!) I took a much-needed personal day, did some shopping and had lunch with each girl at school. It was truly wonderful and I plan to make it a tradition to take a personal day during the Christmas Season each year.

Emma didn't have lunch, but I took her to preschool.
Well, folks, there you have it! An up-to-date (for the moment) blog.  It was actually really fun to look over the past year and relive the memories.  My Thanksgiving quote for the calendar this year says "If you are thankful, what do you do? You share." (W. Clement Stone).  I truly am so thankful and if there is one thing that I have learned during my four decades on this planet it's that love it honestly, truly the only thing that matters.  Not only loving your family and friends who are (usually) easy to love, but loving those whose stories you don't know, who may disagree with you, or may be from a culture or faith that is foreign to you.  Love. Love. Love.  It is all there is.  It is the only thing that gives this life any meaning.  (There's my soapbox for the day.)  Now - off to Christmas in Dairyville at Alpenrose Dairy. Maybe I'll blog about it later - or maybe you'll have to wait a year.

October

Hey - we're getting there!  October seems like 2 seconds ago!
Sweet Lucy turned 8 in October if you can believe it.  She is our smart, creative, caring wonderful girl and we are so proud of her.  These days she is 8 going on 18, but if you look past her desire to be grown up, you can still find the kid there.  She loves horses, art, and using her imagination to create experiments.

Instead of a party this year, Lucy just wanted her friend Ayda to come down from Seattle for a sleepover.

We had so much fun - shopping and painting.

Pumpkin patch trip!

Train ride.

Sweet girls.

Yep, it happened.  I turned 40.  Pete and I went to Vegas to celebrate.  So fun!
This is one of my all-time favorite pictures.  These two have way too much fun together.

Girl Scout Halloween party.

I was a Power Puff girl for Halloween this year.

Lucy (an in character Mortia), Sofie a draculette, and Emma a Hello Kitty.

September

September was a whirlwind as always. And ... I'm embarrassed to say that I don't have really good first-day-of-school pictures.  That is probably because this year I went back to work full time and have had to rely heavily on the help of family (I guess that is not new - I've been relying heavily on family my whole life).  Anyway, here are a couple of miscellaneous pics for September.
After school cards with Mia.

Hallway gymnastics before bed.

Last days of swimming at the Oak Hills Pool, both for summer and for good.  The pool will be remodeled in the coming months.

Swimming with the dogs before they closed the pool for the remodel - the kids loved it.

Fall treats at Oregon Heritage Farm.

On a Super Moon/Eclipse Hunt with our neighbors.  After walking around the neighborhood for an hour we finally got a good view!

August

August is always bitter sweet - summer is still lingering, but you can feel the school year approaching fast.  We made the most of it and created some great memories.

We met my cousin, Trevor, for a fund day at the beach.  The kids loved it.

While I was in Montana visiting a good friend of mine, Pete took the girls on a neighborhood campout.  All the kids in the neighborhood - lots of silliness, s'mores, and good memories.

Marge and Sof at a family BBQ for Pete's birthday.

Sweet Mia swimming with us.

We went to Pete's cousin, Anne's, wedding in Seattle.

And PETE TURNED 40!!!!

July

July was a great month.  Pete was off for some of it and we continued our vacation extravaganza.  It was glorious!
We celebrated Canada Day with our good friends from Vancouver Island who we taught with in Hong Kong.

Beautiful property - so good to see them after all these years!

Since we're all about freedom - we came home to celebrate the 4th of July. :)

Then we were on to Black Butte.  So much fun to be with Andy, Ali, Brady, Drew, and Marge for a week.  The kids just love it.  We called Emma the sloth here because she reminded us of this video: https://youtu.be/xiE5AQHKj_Y

We tried to do a little rock climbing, but due to an incoming thunderstorm, we didn't make it too far.

Lucy and Sofie got to do another horse back ride - this time a longer route.
Emma was still doing the kiddie ride, but loved it.

We visited the pond and found lots of frogs.

The summer is not complete without a trip to the Enchanted Forest!

Movie night after zoo camp!!!

Pete and I always try to fit in a trip to the Oregon Brew Fest.

We did a quick berry picking trip.  We didn't pick berries as often this year, but it's always fun.

Silly girls playing winter in summer.
On our way to the beach as the end of July we visited the Tillamook Forestry Center and learned about butterflies.

We went up into a fire lookout tower.

I took each of the girls on a date - Lucy got a mood ring.

I can't remember what Sof purchased, but she tried on this cute mask.

Emma got a frog hat that she loves.

Love this view.
