Belated Birthday Party

When Lucy's first birthday fell during school holidays, both Pete and I were a bit disappointed that we wouldn't be able to have a big First Birthday Party. But, we decided, what the heck - let's just have it a few weeks late. Two weeks is probably pushing it a bit, but, just like her Mama, Lucy likes the idea of a "Birthday Month" - one day is just too short. :)
Here's Lucy getting ready for the big party. We bought her a new birthday dress in Stanley yesterday and she is wearing her new barrettes she got on her real birthday.
She told her Dad and me that she is so excited and she feels so big!
We rented the BBQ pit on the promenade deck of our apartment complex. Lucy greeted her guests as they arrived.
I'm not sure if you can tell, but it was a princess theme. All the main ones (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Ariel, etc.) were represented - Pete picked out the decor at Toys R Us a while back.
Lucy keeping a lookout for more guests.
Checking out her friend's cool milk carton and thinking, "Why do I still drink out of a sippy cup? I'm one now!"
After the hot dogs, chips, and pasta salad were gone, it was time for cake! At first Lucy didn't know what to do. She was really rather dainty.
Then she started to realize ... "Hey, this is good stuff!"
"A girl could get used to food like this!"
"Do I have something on my face?
"Seriously guys, this is really good!"Then Mama opened Lucy's presents while she monitored the situation and checked out the goods.
I'm so glad we decided to have this post-birthday party. It was so fun and I think Lucy had a great time. It would have been perfect if our family and friends could have been there (and if I could have made a homemade cake - no ovens in Hong Kong :( too bad.) This is the last week of Lucy's birthday month (and mine too, I guess - although I have found it much more fun to concentrate on Lucy's birthday). I guess we'll just have to move on to Christmas after this! :) Have a great week!
