Halfway Through Our Journey

Hello from Chiang Mai! Yesterday we arrived here for the last leg of our trip. We had a wonderful time in Singapore and Bangkok, but we think it will be nice to go at a little slower pace for the next six days. It is super, super hot here, so we plan on staying in air conditioning as much as possible.
The big news is that Lucy cut her first tooth while we were in Bangkok. She has been very good - maybe a bit more fussy, but Pete and I had no idea she was teething until the little bugger popped up. Last night at the Night Market we bought her a little box to put teeth in for the Tooth Fairy someday - we though that was just the right gift to get her here.
Hope everyone is well. I'll post pictures when we get home.

Singapore and Thailand ... Here we come!

The Shmoo seems to be feeling much better today. Her fever is gone, her eyes are brighter, and she was in good spirits. Her noses is still a little stuffy, which doesn't make eating the easiest thing in the world, but hopefully that will clear up soon.
Tomorrow we head out to Singapore, Bangkok, and Changmai. I am really excited for our upcoming adventures - I just hope everyone feels o.k. I will try to blog as much as I can, but I can't promise anything. Loves to all!

And the sickness goes on ...

Sorry about not posting much this week - it's been a bit of a rough one. Lucy is sick again. Before she even got over her first cold, she woke up on Tuesday with a fever, glossy and crusty eyes, and a bit of a cough;. The cough wasn't as bad as the first one, however. Anyway, yesterday I decided enough was enough and I made an appointment to see the doctor. We got out of school at 11:00 today, so Pete, Lucy and I headed to the doctor for a 1:00 appointment, and what a fun appointment it was. He diagnosed Lucy with a cold (duh), conjunctivitises, and (just for fun) another case of thrush. I guess we made him work for his money today. Through all of this, she continues to be in good spirits and as cute as ever, even if she can't breathe out her nose. The doctor okayed us to leave on Saturday, however, so we will still be heading out to Singapore in two days. He said as long as her ears look o.k. and her spirits are good, he thought it would be fine for us to go. As for me, I've felt like I was getting a bug for the last two days, but I refuse to give in, so it is not (as of yet) a full blown cold. Give it time and I am sure I will lose the battle. :) Anyway, I am now typing this in Lucy's room while I am watching her roll around in her crib and entertain herself to no end. She is getting really good at getting up on all fours, which means her scootching may turn into a crawl soon enough. Right now she is taking a break from this activity, as she is giving herself a breather while sucking on her toes. Yum. Anyway, say a prayer or two that our little family gets healthy soon. I am ready for the germs to disolve into the summer sun.

Happy Birthday Auntie Katy

Happy Birthday Auntie Katy! Lucy and I made a special video for you. Pete and I discovered last night that Lucy can play peek-a-boo ... who knew? I thought we were a ways away from that.
We love you Auntie Katy! I hope year 29 is the best one yet!

I hope everyone had a wonderful St. Paddy's Day. We ate Shepherd's Pie with Bob, Jen, Mitch, and Rebecca. It was fun, although I did miss my girls from home.

Sunday Brunch

Today we went to Sunday brunch at the Hong Kong Football club. For around $20 each, we feasted on eggs benedict, curries, sushi, breads ... you name it, it was there. The only downside was that I gave up sweets for Lent and there was a whole table full of delicious deserts like cheesecake and cobbler. I resisted, but I can't wait to go back sometime after Easter!
Lucy got all dressed up in the outfit her Aunt Ali, Uncle Andy, and Cousin Brady gave her:

She got to sit up like a big girl ..

but she had her own idea about what the buffet was.

Sarah and Meaghan, Bob and Jen's kids. Love em.

The scene.

Lucy doing her best Pope impression. :)

Slight Relapse

Well, Lucy is doing much better and I am still O.K. for now, but Pete had a bit of a relapse last night. He came home from school feeling awful and went straight to bed with a 100 degree temp. He slept all day today and is feeling better tonight, so hopefully it was a fluke. Both of us really hope Lucy doesn't get it.
I took a better picture than this one, but I accidentally deleted it from the camera - ugh, foiled again! Hope everyone is have a good weekend!

Wednesday, Wednesday

I'm having one of those Wednesdays where it feels like tomorrow should be Friday, but it's not ... it's Thursday. And, I even took a day off this week. That's bad. Anyway, the shmoo is feeling better, Pete seems to be a bit more perky as well. That means I'll probably wake up with it tomorrow, just when everyone else is back on the mend. :) Lucy is back in her own bed tonight after we (once again) let her sleep with us for a few days while she was sick. We are total pushovers - this could be bad news come the teenage years. Sigh.

Back to work

Pete and I headed back to work today. Pete is still feeling pretty bad, but the shmoo seems a bit better. I could have used another family-stay-home day again, but, alas, work is a necessity.

Family Sick Day

This morning Lucy woke up at 4:45 and couldn't go back to sleep because she was having such a hard time breathing out her nose. Pete had already decided he was staying home from work, but I got up and started to get ready. However, by the time I got out of the shower Lucy was howling and I just felt like I couldn't leave her, so, I, too, called in sick. After a couple more hours of sleep, Lucy woke up her perky self and she seemed to get a bit better as the day went on. Her cough still breaks my heart though. I don't know if I've posted this before, but a while back I came across a quote that describes the way I feel perfectly: "Being a parent is living with your heart outside your body." It is so true and for the first time in my life I can comprehend my parents' love for me. No wonder they didn't want me out until all hours of the night, even when I was a freshman in college! Ah ha! I get it. (How do you like that Mom and Dad?) Anyway, all these deep thoughts just lead me to state (once again) the simple fact that I wish I could be sick for Lucy.
Here is a picture of my two sickies - they look pretty cute fore being sick, huh?

In the afternoon, I took advantage of the fact that I was home during the day and Starbucks is VERY close. I brought back a treat for us all. Pete had to grab the camera when Lucy started reaching for Marianne's Starbuck's bag, saying, "She is definitely your daughter!" Good taste, I say!

Photo shoot

I had a little photo shoot with Lucy this afternoon. Fun! The outfit she is wearing is the very first present I received at my very first baby shower in Bulgaria. I love this outfit! Unfortunately, she is almost out of it :( I was hoping to change blog to a St. Patty's theme today, but it didn't quite happen. Pete is sick now too. I just feel bad for both of them. Lucy has such a bad stuffy nose and a cough that breaks my heart. I just want them both to get better now.

Five Months and Real Food (Kinda)

The Shmoo is five months old today! Even though she is feeling a little under the weather, we let her try a little rice cereal today. She has been watching us eat intensely and trying to grab our food for a while now, so we though she might be ready. We probably won't give her much more than rice cereal until she is around six months, but it was fun to watch her eat today. She loved it! Even if most of it ended up on the table :)
Here is a video of the occasion ... I can't figure out how to turn in around ... sorry.

Sleep sack

Here's a picture of Lucy in her cute sleep sack that I got out at Stanley last weekend. Little Lulu has caught another cold - I hate it. I wish I could be sick for her. She has a stuffy nose and a cough. When will the summer come? I want it here now! At least it is the weekend. :)

No pictures today, sorry. I was at school until 9:00 today at a "Post-Secondary Information Night." I am exhausted.

Bob and Jen and their kids came over for a spontaneous dinner tonight, so I didn't have a chance to take a picture. Here is a video from yesterday though. Enjoy!

Monday

I had to go downtown today to get my picture taken for the yearbook. The photographer came to school in October, but I missed it, as I was busy having a baby and all. Anyway, since I had to go downtown, we decided to make a night of it. Pete met me down there with Lucy, and we went to dinner with Mitch and Rebecca at a great little Nepalese restaurant. Great food. Lucy did great; however, when we were in the elevator going back up to our apartment, out of nowhere she threw up all over me. She was totally not bothered by it. She just puked and started smiling right after. It went all over me and all over the elevator. I hope she is o.k. Like I said, she was in completely good spirits. I think it may have been the taxi ride home. We also fed her formula tonight, since we were out. That could have been it as well - who knows. Pete decided I needed to be the one in the picture tonight. Unfortunately, I had just gotten out of my pukey clothes and just finished rubbing my eyes, so it is not much of a picture. Lucy in the picture makes up for it though. :)

An Excellent Weekend

We were right on the verge of having another lazy weekend. Pete worked late on Friday night and the Shmoo woke us up around 7:00am. We put her down for a nap and Pete was about ready to settle into the couch for a nap himself, while I was getting ready to read a chapter or two of my book. Right then Bob called and asked us if we wanted to go an adventure to Shek O, a little beach town about 45 minutes away. So, we put our laziness on the back burner, packed up little Lucy, and headed out - we are so glad we did!
We were all starving when we got there, so we stopped at this little Thai/Chinese restaurant and had a feast of fried rice, black bean shrimp, and Thai red curry. It was SO good!

Lucy is grabbing at everything these days - she really wanted Pete's beer to be her first taste of "real" food!

The town is such a cute little beach town. We could have easily been in the Mediterranean - I love beach towns! It felt like we were on vacation for the day.

There is lots of money in this town as well. This is a house - more like a mansion. The word "house" and Hong Kong, don't really go together.

We just strolled around and explored. There were some great views!

Lucy took it all in.

As usual, her dad was a bit of a nut - you gotta love it!

Bob, enjoying the splendor.

Some Hong Kongese enjoying the day.

At the end of the day, we were all wiped! Lucy had the right idea!
